As a yearling
We decided to show Cocoa although
we knew that he didn’t quite have the body condition that is needed for the
show ring. He wasn’t castrated until
the end of March and the operation took quite a bit out of him. We then turned him away, and before we knew it,
his first show was upon him in May. Unfortunately he still looked quite lean
& immature against the other yearlings.
The decision
to show him or not was difficult to make. We wanted Coco to gain the experience
that showing brings. We also wanted him to compete so that Bart’s progeny could
be seen.
Cocoa did very
well considering not been as big in condition as some of his competitors and
Marina had very positive comments from the judges. Overall they the judges were very consistent in their comments
mentioned that Coco had correct conformation with beautiful quality &
movement and once matured he will be lovely and very much one to follow.
As a Two Year Old
He was shown lightly with great successes
including being 1st & Reserve Champion &
WP&C Medal winner @ Lampeter Agriculture Show 2009. He was also chosen to represent the Welsh Part Bred Breed in the
breeds display at the "Festival of the Cob" which is a major annual
event held in Aberaeron.
As
a three Year old
He has done a few shows
including the Royal Welsh, he is still growing and there for isn't
carrying as much condition as possibly what he should be for
the show ring although he has still has still done well with
some great positive comments. He
is now a good 15hh to 15.1HH. and
very athletic with lovely movement and rhythm. He
finished the year's showing by winning the WPB at Pembrokeshire
County Show, with his half sister Bugsy being 2nd.
Meet
the parents;
Sire; BLAENLLAIN DOODLEBA (BART) is our own
homebred stallion, he has had many wins & championships
in showing both under saddle and in hand. He won the
Welsh pony & cob Medal as a foal at the Welsh Pony &
Cob International Centenary Show, he won a WP& C
performance medal first time shown under saddle as a 4yo.
Ive also competed BART in dressage being 3rd first time out and show
jumping being regularly placed & jumping double clears.
BART is also currently ridden by the Owner of Cel Aeron
Equestrian Centre, Kelly Webb. They are successfully
competing at affiliated dressage scoring very well and been
given praise from the judges. I am also aiming to continue
competing him in Show jumping. BART is out of our own very successful
show & competition mare BLAENLLAIN DOODLEBERRY (Hopefully
to be put forward for grading) who was by the TB stallion Old
Lucky who also sired Mary Kings top class
eventer King Solomon III.
BART'S progeny are doing really well in the show ring winning
& taking Supremes and Championships at county level in
WPB, SHP & PBA. His first crop of foals were born in 2007 and
are due out under saddle for the 2011 season. They all seem to have inherited
his excellent qualities including the lovely temperament,
looks, jump & trainability.
IT IS OUR AIM TO WORK BART TOWARDS GRADING WITH A
RECOGNISED SOCIETY TO PROVE HIS EXCELLENT TEMPERAMENT,
ABILITY, VERSATILITY, TRAINABILITY AND
SOUNDNESS.
Dam; Penybryn Lady. is
a 15hh (approx) liver chest mare. Marina purchased her and enjoyed many
years of doing all riding club activities. Lady
grand farther who’s the very well known “Wingrove Minkino”,
was by “Bwlch Valentino” and out of “Sarnau Miss
Mink”. These are possibly some of the most famous
showing bloodlines still around today. Lady sire is the
chestnut TB stallion Hello Sonny.
Our opinion I feel that this youngster
should have the potential to be a excellent WPB/PBA/R. HORSE/SPORTS/COMPETITION/DRESSAGE
pony with the temperament to be a genuine R.C/P.C family all
rounder.
