Bart is a home bred stallion, we bred him out of our own mare BLAENLLAIN DOODLE BERRY.  The aim was to breed a versatile horse that would be able to do a variety of disciplines. We also felt that you can invest a lot of time and money in competing so we wanted to have the option of doing a variety of classes at County and National Shows.

2010

I've competed Bart doing dressage and show jumping and he's extremely talented with a huge amount of scope in both, I'm hoping to continue to prove that's he's a horse that can do a job  and do well as a competition horse as well as look beautiful and win in the show ring.

To be fair to the horse he's had very little ridden experience due to my family commitments, some 4/5 year olds have probably done more. I regularly leave him un worked for weeks or months then get on and ride when time allows, I take him to competition totally unprepared and he always does his best for me. I expect him to behave himself and always be polite and well mannered, no matter what time of year it is, even if  he's just being doing his stud duties, in a few hours time he could be standing in a small collecting area full of horse and children on little pony's mares or geldings, he must have good manners and be polite.  Being a stallion is no excuse for him to be noisy, have bad behaviour or be ill mannered. I don't expect him to be treated any different to our other horses.

Ive used him to try mares then 2 minutes later my toddler has been grooming his legs & tail and sitting on him.

I can honestly say I have never felt the need to castrate Bart he lives a happy, normal, sociable life and has regular contact with other horses of both sexes.

Bart has the most amazing, giving, genuine nature you could ever wish for in any horse. He just, for me has the added advantage of being a stallion who has passed his excellent qualities on to his progeny.

2002 to 2006
Bart is born and shown in hand

2009
I gave birth to my daughter, I did exactly the same as when I had my first child and continued to do stud work right up till the birth of my daughter.  This time I was jumping Bart over 3ft grids while 4 month pregnant (not sensible or by choice), but we were trying to get photos of him for stud cards the unfortunately the lighting let us down in the indoor school so we had to use one of him loose jumping out side. Which I took on my own, that must prove how easy Bart is he just kept cantering round over the fence till I got a picture, bless him!

Bart was only lightly shown in hand during 2009 and was done so beautifully  and with great success by Andrew Phillips of the Amar Prefix.

2008
Due to my young child I only rode Bart occasionally usually with my baby in the buggy out side the school, (pushing buggy with baby in and leading stallion at same time, passing mares who were rather keen on whispering sweet nothing in to Bart's ears, really health & safety friendly) although not  having the time to put in to him  he was not very well prepared  but I still showed and regularly won with him  under saddle and in hand during 2008 at the same time doing his stud duties.

2007
He did very little ridden work in summer 2007 due to the birth of my son in the August.  Putting Barts temperament to the ultimate test, I regularly rode him through my early pregnancy I continued to  work him regularly on the lunge and doing stud duties up to a week before I gave birth. Having had a difficult caesarean I didn't start  back riding about three months after having my son.

I simply tacked Bart up got on and went for a lovely leisurely ride round the 3 mile block.  Bart had not been sat on for the 11 to 12 months, I didn't lunge him or do any thing to get any excess energy out of him. In a very brave mood (I wasn't feeling as brave as I had been before the birth of my son!), I  prepared myself for the worst and  hoping not to be ejected before my bum hit the saddle,  got straight on.  He was a perfect gent and really looked after me. Thank god, as it wouldn't have taken a lot to deposit me and go off on his own.

2006
I broke Bart in during spring 2006, and as expected he was exceptionally easy and very laid back to do. He loves learning something new. Not long after being broken to ride I  regularly used him as the sensible escort to ride out with just backed youngsters (mares & geldings). He did his first show under saddle about 4 to 6 weeks after being backed,  he was champion ridden Welsh Part Bred and was awarded the WP&CS performance medal.

Since then he has regularly won &  placed in major shows in both Ridden and In-Hand Classes classes.  In between his new riding career he was also trained to do AI in spring & Summer 2006. To be fair to Bart he separates the two jobs very well, thankfully!
